Part 1 - Web Design Concepts and Site Development CIW Training

This first course in the series introduces Web design concepts, including page layout, usability, navigation, graphics and multimedia. It also teaches the process to follow when developing a Web site, and implementation factors that need to be considered. It follows lessons 1-9 in the ILT materials for CIW Site Designer Course: Design Methodology and Technology (5DMT).

Learn to:

  • Identify the features of the Web, basic Web design concepts, page layout and elements, usability testing, and navigation concepts.
  • Identify the elements in a Web site include the page layout elements, colors, and the fonts used in a Web site.
  • Identify the various Web graphics and multimedia concepts of Web site design.
  • Identify the various phases of the Web development process and the site implementation factors.

Audience: The target audiences for this course are End Users, Application Developers. Additionally, Web authors, marketing and communications professionals, PR professionals, Webmasters, graphic designers, technical writers, and library scientists. Learners will have completed either the CIW Foundations certification or the i-Net+ certification. Both of these provide a foundational knowledge about Internet networking, servers and clients, design and development, security, and using the Internet for business.

Part 2 - Basic Web Technologies CIW Training

This second course in the series teaches about Web technologies, including HTML, tables, HTML frames, metadata and cascading style sheets. It provides learners with the opportunity to practice working with all of these technologies. It follows lessons 10-14 in the ILT materials for CIW Site Designer Course: Design Methodology and Technology (5DMT).

Learn To:

  • Identify HTML concepts.
  • Create page structures with tables and frames.
  • Identify the uses of metadata tags.
  • Identify how to use CSS for designing a Web site.
  • Identify the features of CSS2.

Audience:The target audiences for this course are End Users, Application Developers, Web authors, marketing and communications professionals, PR professionals, Webmasters, graphic designers, technical writers, and library scientists. Learners will have completed either the CIW Foundations certification or the i-Net+ certification. Both of these provide a foundational knowledge about Internet networking, servers and clients, design and development, security, and using the Internet for business.

Part 3 - Using FrontPage, Dreamweaver and HomeSite

This third course in the series teaches learners how to use some of the more popular Web site development tools. It covers the basics of using Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Allaire HomeSite. It follows lessons 15-21 in the ILT materials for CIW Site Designer Course: Design Methodology and Technology (5DMT).

Learn To

  • Identify FrontPage 2000 and how to create Web pages with tables, images, and image maps by using FrontPage.
  • Identify how to format Web pages, use style sheets, Web forms, DHTML effects, FrontPage components, and FrontPage Web reports.
  • Identify how to apply the various Dreamweaver features that are used for effective site development.
  • Identify how to perform file-related operations by using HomeSite.
  • Identify the benefits of the Tags menu, inserting HTML tags by using tag chooser.
  • Identify the benefits of using the tag completion feature of HomeSite.

Part 4 - Using Paint Shop Pro, Flash, JavaScript and DHTML

This is the fourth course in a five part series. Students will learn the basics of using JASC Paint Shop Pro to create images for Web sites and Macromedia Flash to create animated Web sites. Subjects covered in this course include advanced Web design technologies, including JavaScript and DHTML.

Learn To:

  • Identify how to create, convert, modify and enhance image files on a Web page by using Paint Shop Pro.
  • Create multimedia content for a Web page by using Flash drawing tools.
  • Identify the concepts of JavaScript and how to use JavaScript for Web development.
  • Identify the concepts and components of DHTML.
  • Identify how to create DHTML code.

Audience:The audience for this course includes End Users, Application Developers, Web authors, Marketing and Communications Professionals, PR Professionals, Webmasters, Graphic Designers, Technical Writers, and Library Scientists. Students will have completed either the CIW Foundations certification or the i-Net+ certification. Both of these certifications provide a foundational knowledge about Internet networking, servers and clients, design and development, security, and using the Internet for business. This course follows the ILT materials for CIW Site Designer Course: Design Methodology and Technology (5DMT) . In addition, students should have taken the first 3 parts in this series (87021-87023). This course prepares candidates for exam number 1DO-420.

This final course in the series continues teaching about advanced Web design technologies and concepts, including XML, HTTP servers, cookies, plug-ins, Java applets, databases and standards organizations. This course also teaches the final step in Web site design - publishing the site

  • Identify the various Markup languages such as HTML, XML, and XHTML.
  • Identify the HTML limitations, XML advantages and XML rules.
  • Identify certain concepts related to HTTP servers and cookies.
  • Identify the situations in which various plug-ins are used.
  • Identify the steps to create a downloadable file and embed Java applets.
  • Identify the features of Java authoring tools.
  • Identify the databases, Database Management System (DBMS), and related technologies.
  • Identify the methods and techniques to use databases with Web sites.
  • Identify he Internet standards organizations involved in various aspects of the Internet.
  • Identify how to publish Web sites using various tools.
